Updated: 2/15/2001 It's all Robert's fault... the night before, Robert came home and said to the dogs, "Lucy, I'm home....!" and then said we needed to have a Lucy for him to tell that to... The next day, I got an e-mail from a Whippet Rescue contact asking me if I could go check out a possible Whippet in a shelter in Marion, IN. When I got there and saw that Lucy was not a Whippet, but was told that she was going to be put to sleep because nobody had come to adopt her, I couldn't let that happen after looking into those big brown eyes. She looks more Rhodesian Ridgeback (without the ridge) than anything else. We are estimating her age at 2 - 5 years, although we're starting to think on the much younger end of that range. Lucy was a stray picked up off the street during the coldest part of the month of January, and the edges of her ears are black and crusty from possible frostbite. She was extremely emaciated and dehydrated, but she's improving daily. She was full of whipworm, hookworm, and she also has heartworm. We don't yet know the extent of the damage from the heartworm... x-rays will be taken this week. We're in the process of trying to improve her over-all health and nutrition levels before beginning treatment, since the treatment itself for heartworm will make her very sick. We hope you enjoy these photos. We're already getting attached to this elegant little girl. In the two weeks since we got her, she has perked up considerably, and has gotten very playful.
